THE BOMB GOES UP, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!!!! THE INAUGURATION OF THE RACING SEASON AT SŁUŻEWIEC ON SUNDAY
After the winter break horses, jockeys and their admirers will return to the Warsaw race track. On Sunday, 19 April, for the first time in 2015, the favourite hit of the unforgettable Jarema Stępowski will be heard at 13.00. Nine races will take place on the inauguration day of the 71st season. There will be numerous additional attractions for the spectators, to which we now invite everyone.
The opening of the 2015 Season looks to be a day of great sports emotions and aesthetic impressions; as many as 77 horses have been entered for 9 races on the first racing day in Warsaw. We will see six races of noble and fast English Thoroughbreds, and three of beautiful and courageous Pure Blood Arabians. They will be ridden by the best Służewiec jockeys, including the outstanding 20-year champion Szczepan Mazur, recently returned from the United Arab Emirates where he worked in the winter and rode in the colours of one of the sheikhs. Vaclav Janacek will come from Spain, where he is permanently based. In past seasons he gained the sympathy of the Warsaw public by winning not only with favourites but with also with less betted horses.
- We are really pleased to see this large number of horses entered for the races on the first day of the season, and with such strong jockey participation. All this guarantees a great contest on the Track, is how Włodzimierz Bąkowski, Director of the Warsaw-Służewiec Race Track, summarizes the race program.
Presentation of the participants of the first race of the 2015 season (Dandolo-Handicap Opening) will begin on the paddock in front of the Grand Stand at 13:00 hrs. About 30 minutes later the bomb will go up, and as the unforgettable Jan Ciszewski once said, everything will be in “the horse’s hands”. The main race of the first day, the Tomasz Dul Memorial, commemorates one of the best jockeys in the history of Służewiec, alongside Jerzy Jednaszewski and Mieczysław Mełnicki, who died in a tragic car accident 10 years ago.
An important event of the first day of the season will be the opening for the public of Stand II, which was undergoing meticulous restoration over the last few years, under the careful supervision of the Warsaw Art Conserver. The restoration returned the stand to its international status of a so called Category I facility. The newly opened stand will provide a wide range of attractions for spectators, including an exhibition of pre-World War II photographs of the race track as well as stalls with arts and crafts.
- The opening of Stand II is an important phase in restoring the Służewiec race track to its former splendour. I am convinced that thanks to the work which went into the renovation spectators will be able to enjoy the time spent in this beautiful venue even more, is how Wojciech Szpil, President of Totalizator Sportowy sp. z o.o summarized the revitalization project.
A special zone was also prepared for the youngest spectators, where they will be able to enjoy a game of horseshoe pitching, jump on a mini-bungee or go for a pony ride. During the breaks between races spectators will find a wide range of catering offers including the “Pod Podkową” bar, stalls with health food in Stand II and popular food trucks.
The easiest way to reach Służewiec is by car (entrance from Puławska street 266). It is also accessible by public transport, eg. the bus line 300 which leaves the Metro Wilanowska terminal every 30 minutes and goes directly to the race track, or bus lines 709, 715, 727, 739 in the direction of Piaseczno (bust stop on demand „Wyścigi”), as well as trams no.: 4, 10 and 35 to the Wyścigi terminal, which is only a short walk from Wyścigowa Avenue.
A special promotion offer for the public was also prepared for the occasion of the opening of the 2015 season: an adult ticket for the Season Opening for zone A and B costs only PLN 5. Children under 13 are admitted free of charge. Tickets will be available on the day in the ticket offices at the entrance to the Track.
The Warsaw Race Track at Służewiec is one of the most beautiful facilities of this type in the world. During the racing season it has been gathering hundreds of Varsovians as well as tourists from Poland and abroad for decades. A trip to the Służewiec race track is a great opportunity to spend a weekend day away from the rush of the city; the track is a great place to relax and experience the emotions associated with the rivalry of horses and riders.
